    1. The very first run of the Golden Horseshoe Revue was Wednesday, July 13, 1955 in honor of Walt and Lillian Disney's anniversary.
    2. The second run of the Golden Horseshoe Revue was Sunday, July 17, 1955 for a media and private invitation opening.
    3. The opening of the Golden Horseshoe Revue to the general public was held in Monday, July 18, 1955


    * ** Boag, Wally * **             

    • Original  Cast as Pecos Bill from Wednesday, July 13, 1955 to Thursday, January 28, 1982.
    • Born Wallace Vincent Boag on 13 September 1920 in Portland, Oregon.
    • Wally Boag was suggested to Walt Disney by Don Novis. They were hired by Walt Disney to co-write and perform a western 1800's saloon style show for his new theme park. Wally played the original Pecos Bill part and starred in over 39,000+ performances of the show. His last show was on Thursday, January 28, 1982 (performance # 39,5220). Wally passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in Santa Monica, California. (the day before co-star Betty Taylor passed).

    ** Burley, Fulton **          

    • Lead Irish Tenor/emcee from 1962 to Sunday, October 12, 1986.
    • Born Francis "Fulton" Burley on 12 June 1922 in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada.
    • Fulton Burley was hired to replace an ailing Don Novis. He performed in over 45,000+ shows over his 24 year career with the Revue. He also voiced Michael, the parrot in the Enchanted Tiki Room. He passed away on Monday, May 7, 2007 in Carlsbad, California at the age of 84 of a heart attack. A memorial service was held for him at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank on Monday, October 29, 2007.

    Hardwick, Dick          

    • Replacement for Pecos Bill from 1982 to Sunday, October 12, 1986.
    • Dick Hardwick was hired in 1982. In 1983, he was sent to Florida to train with Bev Bergeron as a replacement for the retiring star, Wally Boag. Dick was also the lead in the Thunder Mountain Breakdown Boys and the Main Street Maniacs. ​Dick performed in the last show of the Golden Revue, along with Betty Taylor, Fulton Burley and Jay Meyers (doing the Police Gazette number).     Henry, Bert              

    • Original sub for Wally Boag for Pecos Bill from 1955 to 1976.
    • Born Albert Henry Renner on 15 May 1917 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County,      Ohio, USA. He died on 21 Mar 1995 (aged 77) in Gotha, Orange County, Florida, USA and is buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, Orange County, Florida, USA 
    • Burt Henry was​ a stand-up comedian from burlesque and recorded several "blue humor" albums. In 1975, Wally sent Bert to Florida to help train the cast for the opening of the Diamond Horseshoe Revue at Walt Disney World.

    * Marsh, Judy *            

    • Original Cast - Slue Foot Sue from Wednesday, July 13, 1955 to January, 1956.
    • Judy Marsh was the original Slue Foot Sue, but left her job after 6 months.

    Meyer, Jay 

    • Sub for Fulton Burley as the Emcee/Irish Tenor from 1972 to Sunday, October 12, 1986. He was so popular and did so many shows that he became a main castmember over the years. He was known for his rendition of "Tu-ra-lu-ra." He is also the voice of one of the singing busts in the Haunted Mansion. He joined Fulton for the last show in 1986 doing the Police Gazette number.He was born in Missouri on May 20, 1923 and passed away on January 18, 2009 in Van Nuys, California.

    * ​​Novis, Don * 

    • Emcee/Irish Tenor from Wednesday, July 13, 1955 to 1964 .
    • Don Novis was the original Emcee/Irish tenor and helped co-write the script for the show with Wally Boag. It was Don who asked Wally to audition for Walt for the comedy lead. Don also recorded the song "Love Is a Song" from the animated movie, Bambi. Don passed away on July 23, 1966.

    ** Taylor, Betty **

    • Longest running Slue-foot Sue from January, 1956 to Sunday, October 12, 1986.
    • Betty Taylor replaced Judy Marsh in January, 1956 and more than proved herself to be the perfect Slue-foot Sue as she stayed in that role for the next 30 years. Betty passed away the day after her co-star, Wally Boag on Sunday, June 5, 2011 in Coupeville, Washington at the age of 91.

    * Watson, Jack *

    • Original Pre-show performer ~ Sunday, July 17, 1955 to 19__.
    • Jack Watson was the original pre-show performer who would warm up the audience by leading a sing-a-long and playing the banjo. After he left, he was replaced by slides with lyrics and a soundtrack.

    Wheeler, Jim  

    • Emcee/Irish Tenor ~ Late 195_ to 19__.
    • Jim Wheeler was chosen to sub for Don Novis and eventually joined the Dapper Dans in the late 1960's.

    Adams, Jim 

    • Sub for Wally Boag in the Comedy lead as Pecos Bill from 1970 to 1982. 
    • Jim left to pursue a career venture with Wally Boag and later, became a professional puppeteer at his own company.

    Bergeron, Bev  

    • Sub for Wally Boag in the Comedy lead in 1971 at Disneyland and 1971 to 1987 at Walt Disney World.
    • Bev was trained by Bert Henry at Disneyland for several months before being sent to Walt Disney World for the opening of the Diamond Horseshoe Revue. There he was trained by Wally Boag, who was temporarily stationed in Florida to oversee the Revue Show.  That show started training the first week of September, 1971 and opened on Friday, October 1, 1971. Slue Foot Sue was played by 40's MGM musical star, Martha Steward. Wally stayed until 1974 when Bev became the shows' director. In 1983, he trained a young Dick Hardwick for the lead role to replace a retiring Wally Boag. He also produced, wrote and directed the Pioneer Hall Show at Camp Wilderness in Walt Disney World.

    Daniels, Dana  

    • Sub for Dick Hardwick in the comedy lead from 1983 to 1986. He went on to have his own show called the Golden Horseshoe Variety Show. He is currently doing live shows and corporate events.

    Dowd, Mick  

    • Pre-show performer/Singing Waiter from 1965 to 1967.

    Frank, Fred  

    • Sub for Fulton Burley as Emcee/Irish Tenor from 1982 to 1986.
    • Fred Frank was a member of the Dapper Dans in the 1960's. He performed at the Golden Horseshoe around 1960 to 1961 with Roger Axworthy, John Borneman and T. J. Marker. He also worked in the Mickey Finn Show. He started as a sub for Fulton Burley in 1982 until 1986. Fred passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the age of 76.

    Fugal, Lee

    • Pre-show performer from 1965 to 1967 (for 3 summers). 
    • ​He performed in a pre-show which replaced the slide preshow. He played tonkytonk piano, trumpet, banjo and drums (sometimes all at the same time). He also played in the band during the show.He sang in the Hootenanny in 1966. He left in 1967 to return to college.

    Grimm, Shelby

    • Sub for Fulton Burley as the Emcee/Irish Tenor from 1982 to 1986.
    • Shelby Grimm started in the Golden Horseshoe Revue doing the evening shows. He worked with Dick Hardwick and Kirk Wall. He also did the Hoop Dee Doo Revue in Japan at Tokyo Disneyland and sang with the Dapper Dans in 1984.

    Hardwick, Dick

    • Understudy for Wally Boag from 197_ until he became Wally replacement in 1982.

    Henry, Bert

    • Emcee/Irish Tenor from 1955 to 1976.
    • Bert Henry started at the Golden Horseshoe in 1955 as Wally's original sub in the role of the Traveling Salesman/Pecos Bill. Bert was a comedian who recorded several albums and performed in night clubs. Little else is known about him after he stopped working in 1976.

    Lewis, Martha

    • Sub for Betty Taylor in the night shows from 19__ to 19__.

    Nash, Bob

    • Sub for Fulton Burley as the Emcee/Irish Tenor from 1965 to 19__.

    ​Norris, Mike

    • Sub for Dick Hardwick as the comedy lead of Pecos Bill from 1980's to ____.

    Pate, John

    • Sub for Dick Hardwick as the comedy lead from 1980's to 19__.

    Payne, Don

    • Sub for Jim Adams as the comedy lead from 1977 to 1981.
    • Don Payne was the only male sub to perform in both the Revue and Jamboree Shows. He started at Disneyland in 1967 in the character/entertainment division. He left in 1982 and returned in 1986 to do the Jamboree Show until 1987. Don currently lives in the high desert area and sells real estate.

    Petska, Steve

    • Sub for Dick Hardwick as the comedy lead from 1983 to 1986.

    Reinhardt, Kevin 

    • Sub for Fulton Burley as the comedy lead from 1980's to 1986. 
    • As well as the Golden Horseshoe Revue, he performed in the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue at Tokyo Disneyland and performed the entire show in Japanese.

    Schneider, Ron 

    • Sub for Wally Boag and Dick Hardwick as the comedy lead from 1980 to 1982.
    • Ron Schneider auditioned in December, 1979 and was hired by Sonny Anderson and Wally Boag to start in April, 1980 as a sub for Wally Boag. Ron left in 1982 to create and perform the character of Dream Finder for Walt Disney World's EPCOT Center in the new Imagination Pavilion.

    Wall, Kirk

    • Sub for Dick Hardwick as the comedy lead from 1983 to 1986.
    • Kirk Wall worked as a sub for Dick Hardwick, as well as playing in various bluegrass bands, parades and events such as State Fair and Blast to the Past. He was a member of the Barley Boys for Pigmania and an original member of Billy Hill and the Hillbillies. Kirk performed as Billy Hill and the Hillbillies 5 days a week at the Golden Horseshoe or Big Thunder Ranch Arena. He is currently at Knott's Berry Farm as Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies.

    Firehouse Five Plus Two often played at the Golden Horseshoe over the years. 

    **Original five members included: Ward Kimball, Clarke Mallery, Jimmy MacDonald, Ed Penner and Frank Thomas.They recorded an album live at the Golden Horseshoe on Friday and Saturday, July 27-28, 1962. Songs included: Anvil Stomp, Muskrat Ramble, You've Got To See Momma Every Night, Lassus Trombone, Coney Island Washboard, Ja-Da, Baby Won't You Please Come Home and Tiger Rag.Their last performance was at the Anaheim Convention Center on Wednesday, November 17, 1971.

    Alguire, Danny

    • Musician - trumpet/cornet from 19__ until 1968.
    • He was born on August 30, 1914 in Oklahoma. He played with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. He was a Walt Disney Studio musician. He replaced Johnny Lucas on trumpet/cornet and passed away on July 8, 1992 in Oregon.

    Brun, George

    • Musician - tuba from 19__ to 1969.
    • He was born on July 3, 1914 in Oregon. He subbed for Ward Kimball on trombone and worked as a Walt Disney Studio composer. He wrote the Ballad of Davy Crockett and songs for the original Mickey Mouse Club. He was married to Ilene Woods, who voiced Cinderella. He retired in 1976 and passed away on May 23, 1983 in Oregon.

    • He subbed for Frank Thomas on piano. He was a jazz pianist and co-founder of the Polecats Jazz Band.

    • He was born on March 4, 1914 in Minnesota. He worked as an animator and helped Walt with train inspired attractions. He was the only member to stay the full 22 years. He passed away on July 8, 2002 in Los Angeles, California.

    • He subbed for Danny Alguire and played the helicon (member of the tuba family). He also played with Turk Murphy and his band on trumpet.

        From Spring, 1989 to 1991.....The original Billy Hill and the Hillbillies team in Bear/Critter Country was Kirk Wall, John, Marshall, Dennis Fetchet and Mario Hildalgo. They stayed together off and on for three years. Subs included Tom Sauber.  

        From Wednesday, August 5, 1992 to Sunday, December 18, 1994....The second original Billy Hill and the Hillbillies team in Frontierland was Kirk Wall, John Marshall, Dennis Fetchet and Evan Marshall. They stayed together continually for eight years.  

        From Sunday, December 18, 1994 to Sunday, November 21, 1999....The same team continued on in The Golden Horseshoe five days a week Thursday through Mondays with The Variety Show on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This team was Kirk Wall, John Marshall, Dennis Fetchet and Evan Marshall.  

        From Sunday, November 21, 1999 to Monday, July 17, 2000....The same Billy Hill and the Hillbillies Team continued on together at Big Thunder Ranch five days a week from Thursday to Mondays while Woody's Round-up took over the Golden Horseshoe. This team was Kirk Wall, John Marshall, Dennis Fetchet and Evan Marshall.  

        From Thursday, July 20, 2000 to Thursday, October 9, 2003....The same Billy Hill and the Hillbillies Team returned to the Golden Horseshoe. The same team of Kirk Wall, John Marshall, Dennis Fetchet and Evan Marshall continued on....

          

        With the departure of the Golden Horseshoe Variety Show starring Dana Daniels, The Billy Hill and the Hillbillies Show went to seven days a week and three teams were created with some of the hillbillies working 5 days a week and some working 2 days a week.

        • Blue Team in Golden Horseshoe ~ Kirk Wall as front man on guitar and fiddle, Rick Storey on Banjo and guitar, Dennis Fetchet on fiddle and mandolin and Anders Swanson on bass. This team worked Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

        Tuesday, October 14, 2003 to Wednesday, June 12, 2012 ~ 

        • Green Team in Golden Horseshoe ~ John Eaden as front man on guitar, John David on Banjo and guitar, Duane Michaels on fiddle and mandolin and John Marshall on bass and fiddle. (This team was teasingly called 3 Johns and Duane). This team worked Tuesdays and Wednesdays.


        ​From Tuesday, June 18, 2012 to Monday, January 6, 2014 ~All three teams of Billy Hill and the Hillbillies were moved to the arena stage in Big Thunder Ranch still performing with the same schedule and members and doing shows more themed to seasonal Disney character type entertainment.   


        Themed shows at the Big Thunder Arena included:

        • June 14, 2013 to July, 2013 ~ Billy Hill & the Hillbillies' Red, White and Bluegrass Show
        • November 20, 2013 to January 5, 2014 ~ Billy Hill and the Holiday Hillbillies Show 


        On Monday, January 6, 2014, after 25 years together, the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies Show was retired and all three teams were dismissed or moved to other shows.   ​Leaving Disneyland were Kirk Wall, Dennis Fetchet, John Marshall and John David. Anders Swanson continued on at California Adventure working with Five and Dime, John Eaden returned full time to Laughing Stock Company. Duane Michaels became a pirate with the Bootstrappers in New Orleans Square until he left a few years later to work repairing musical instruments for school districts. John Marshall performs outside the park with his brother, Evan and for a while was a founding member of the Misky Mountain Boys. Rick Storey worked at Big Thunder Ranch performing as Tex Tumbleweed on the BBQ stage until that area was closed in 2015 to build Star Wars Land. In January of 2014; Kirk, Dennis, Rick and Anders started to perform at Knott's Berry Farm as Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies, where they continue to this day. (as of February, 2019). Dennis Fetchet left the band in April of 2019 and was replaced by Eric Brenton.  ​

             This show originally had 3 main parts; Sheriff Clem Clodhopper, Mayor Sam McGillicuddy and his daughter, Sallie Mae McGillicuddy. Sallie Mae was played by a male for many years, but due to guest complaints, the part was dropped (with the last show on Wednesday, October 3, 2015) and replaced by the character of saloon owner, Miss Rose starting on Thursday, October 4, 2015. ​

            Silver Dollar Six Show

            Early 2016 to ? ? ? A six piece band of reformed gamblers featuring piano, trombone, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone and drums who play New Orleans style western songs and comedy. They play 5 days a week inside and around the Golden Horseshoe.
